On April 28, 2018, several teams of students from South Pasadena Unified School District excelled at the 33rd Los Angeles County Math Field Day. Over 400 students representing school districts from throughout the county participated at the competition, held at Azusa Pacific University.
SPMS sixth graders David Chong, Sequoia Ding, Ryan Estanislao, and Alex Ninomiya were awarded the Top Team trophy in addition to their silver medals in both Problem Solving and Procedural Skills, and the bronze medal in Conceptual Understanding.
Seventh graders Andrew Jin, Jackie Mancera, Thomas Uelmen, and Erika Wang earned the Top Team trophy as a result of gold medals in both Problem Solving and Procedural Skills.
Eighth graders Chanyu Kim, Miranda Liu, Ricky Luo, and David Zhang secured silver medals in both Problem Solving and Procedural Skills.
Fifth graders Graham Godson, Ethan Kung, Dhruv Mitra, and Brandon Woo captured the bronze medal in all three categories, Problem Solving, Conceptual Understanding, and Procedural Skills.
Fourth graders Satya Coleman, Isabelle Huang, Jesse Li, and Eric Shirioshi earned the bronze medal in Conceptual Understanding.
The students were coached by Dawn Tull, Katy Chen, Dean McCoy, and Eric Aispuro.
