SPHS SkillsUSA Students Claim Numerous Medals and Accolades at State Conference

Congratulations to all the medalists in the 2018 SkillsUSA state competition held April 19-22, 2018, in Ontario, California. SPHS students consistently perform at very high levels showcasing their career leadership and technical skills. Here are the results:

Gold Medalists

Action Skills - Henry Balding

Community Service - Liz Osoy, Sebastian Chinen, Brandon Lee

Occupational Health and Safety - Dhruv Vansadia, Natalie Terhune, Valeriya Smaliy

Interactive Game Design - Damian Ugalde, Max Wilder-Smith

Silver Medalists

Robotics Urban Search and Rescue - Max Yee, Micah Mekhitarian

Entreprenuership - Christian Brewster, Jessica Lat, James Carl Schwab, Matthew Wolf

Career Pathways Showcase - Jolene Lee, Talulla Chow, Luyang Zhang

Screen Printing - Archer Willems

Outstanding Chapter - Drew Sevilla, Mollie Parker, Damian Ugalde

Introductory Advertising - Alex Mariano

While at the conference, twenty-one members served as delegates and voted on constitutional amendments in meetings chaired by SkillsUSA California High School President and South Pasadena member, Victoria Venardi. Additionally, the SPHS Chapter was awarded Gold Level in the Chapter of Excellence competition.

Other notable results include:

Damian Ugalde and Mollie Parker were elected to represent California in the SkillsUSA National Delegation. 

Erin Soohoo placed third in the logo design competition and her design appeared on every brochure and electronic display.

Ryan Chavez placed second in logo design and his design appeared on over 3000 t-shirts.  It will also be the official state shirt for California team for the 2018 National Competition in Louisville.

Six students earned the SkillsUSA Statesman Award: Liz Osoy, Sebastian Chinen, Dhruv Vansadia, Max Wilder-Smith, Natalie Terhune, Valeriya Smaliy.
