SOUTH PASADENA, Calif. (January 2, 2025) – Registration to enroll children new to South Pasadena elementary schools for the 2025-2026 school year will begin on January 17, 2025. Parents/guardians interested in registering children, who do not currently attend SPUSD schools, should first visit their home school to pick up a registration packet and schedule an appointment for an in-person meeting. In-person meetings will be held between January 27-31, 2025 for families who have other children in the District or February 10-19, 2025 for new families. The child’s home school is determined by the attendance area boundaries for each school, and addresses may be verified using the School Locator by Street posted here.
Children who are currently enrolled at SPUSD schools are automatically registered for the following school year, and parents do not need to fill out a new registration packet. Current parents should fill out and return the Intent to Return form, which will be sent home with students, by January 10, 2025.
To improve the likelihood that siblings will attend the same elementary school, siblings of current students will be allowed to register first. After parents/guardians complete their registration meeting during the designated dates with the required paperwork, they are ensured an equal chance of being placed at their home school during the new family lottery, regardless of when the initial meeting takes place. The date and time of registration will only be used to determine school placement (as space permits) for children who register after February 19, 2025.
With the statewide expansion of the transitional kindergarten (TK) program, children who turn four by September 1, 2025 will be eligible to register for the TK program offered this fall. More information about the TK program may be found on the SPUSD website and TK registration information may be found here.
SPUSD also offers a Dual Language Immersion Program for elementary and middle school children. For parents interested in learning more about the program, SPUSD created a general overview presentation that has been shared on the Dual Language Immersion (DI) Program webpage.
