West Coast Premier of Classic French Film Enthralls SPHS French Students

On Halloween day, SPHS French students ventured off campus and attended the 2024 American French Film Festival at the Director's Guild of America in Los Angeles.

Thanks to generous support from the South Pasadena Educational Foundation (SPEF), students viewed the West Coast premier of an updated “Le Comte de Monte Cristo.” Full of themes including adventure, love, and destiny, as well as its lessons about the costs of revenge, this Alexandre Dumas classic brought the era to life.

Students also heard from the film's writers, the composer, and the actor who plays the villain Captain Danglars, about their creative process, including a question and answer session in English and French. The outing gave students a chance to experience a French literature classic in movie form and exposure to thematic vocabulary.

Thank you to SPEF and SPHS teachers Erin Kanner and Deborah Mogel and Media Specialist Shelee Luna for a day full of French adventure.

Go, TIgers!
