On Thursday, October 17, 2024, students from South Pasadena Unified School District schools will participate in the Great California ShakeOut earthquake drills. Students and employees have been informed about proper earthquake safety protocol and will participate so that the steps are easy-to-remember in case of an emergency.
SPUSD will send an emergency notification TEST during the Great California ShakeOut.
The test will be sent via ParentSquare as an urgent alert. If you do not receive the emergency notification test on October 17, please notify your school office.
The ShakeOut is only one example of safety preparedness activities undertaken each year. SPUSD schools develop safety plans including age-appropriate videos shared with students that detail fire, earthquake, soft lockout and hard lockdown procedures. Emergency preparedness information for parents is posted on each school’s website. The protocols are developed and revised in tandem with law enforcement agencies including the South Pasadena Police and Fire Departments.
The safety of our students and employees is a top priority for SPUSD. Participation in the International ShakeOut Day is an important reminder to discuss and practice safety procedures at home as well as at school. Here is a link with additional tips for earthquake safety.
